Young Curators is a program that actively encourages children and teenagers to curate their own film event. This and the Young Jury are the centerpieces of our film education. Over several weeks in spring, the project aims to hone competencies in dealing with film as a medium and to teach children early on how much fun cinema is.

As part of the Young Curators program, educators from sixpackfilm, Vienna Shorts and the Austrian Film Museum work with a group of students, watch (nonnarrative) shorts on the big screen, and discuss them. The project culminates in a student-curated short film program from the pool of screened works, which is then publicly presented during our festival. The students work on the content for half a day, write a program description, host an event, create a trailer (from hand-painted film strips) and do a Q&A with the filmmakers.

Now in its tenth edition, the project is supported by culture connected — this year, our curators hail from the 7B class of Gymnasium Haizingergasse in Vienna. (dhe)
