WHO'S OSCAR, EFA & CO?

WHO'S OSCAR, EFA & CO?

The prizes for Vienna Shorts 2024 have been awarded – and with them, the qualifications for the major international and national film awards. The German artist Ulu Braun and the Austrian director Sarah Pech have particular reason to be pleased.

Ulu Braun has made it onto the list twice with Pacific Vein: his critique of capitalism, which won the main prize in the Animation Avantgarde competition, is in the running for both the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film and the European Film Award.

Also qualified for the Oscars is La historia se escribe de noche (History is written at night) by the Cuban director Alejandro Alonso Estrella. His film, having won the main prize in the Fiction & Documentary competition, is in the running for Best Short Documentary Film.

With Ich hab dich tanzen sehn, the Tyrolean Sarah Pech has also secured a place on the Oscar list. Her film won the Austrian Competition and is now in the running for both Best Live-Action Short Film at the Academy Awards and the Austrian Film Award.

By the way, Clemens Niel has also qualified for the Austrian Film Award with his video The Dream for the band oh alien. Niel won the 12th Austrian Music Video Award at the festival and can thus also hope for further honors.
