Our kids' and youth program

Our kids' and youth program

For our 20th edition, we have significantly expanded our children's and youth program: Under the motto Short Films For Long Thrills, we offer a family program for children from four years, two programs for schoolchildren (from 10 and from 14 years) and two youth programs from 16 years in cooperation with Kino und Krawall, the young film club in the Stadtkino im Künstlerhaus.

The programs are shorter than regular film programs, for the younger ones mostly without dialogue and for the older ones with easy to understand dialogue or subtitles. The aim of the program is to whet children's and young people's appetites for cinema as early as possible - but at the same time not to neglect the goal of actively promoting skills in dealing with the medium of film.

Overview

As a special anniversary offer, we, with the support of the City of Vienna, invite people under 20 to the cinema for free. Tickets are available, while stocks last, at the box office of the respective venue after age verification. Free tickets for children in the family program are also available via our online ticket store.

KIDS' PROGRAM

The festival’s kids’ program consists of entertaining and thought-provoking segments for children of various ages. This year, we’re offering a program for kids aged 10+ conceived as a school screening as well as a family program for kids from the age of 4. The films have been hand-picked to suit the different age groups. Language accessibility was one of the main criteria in the selection process. The large cinematic diversity invites young viewers to laugh, wonder, and think.

YOUTH PROGRAM

The festival’s youth program consists of a program for teenagers from the age of 14 which is conceived as a school screening as well as two early prime-time programs for young people aged 16+ (in cooperation with Kino & Krawall). The themes are dependency, empathy, body issues, and gender roles — the wide thematic range of the films invites everyone to join the discussion.

Youth Program

Young Curators has been one of our education department’s signature pieces for many years. This year, students of 6B class of Döblinger Gymnasium have put together a program of experimental films called three quarters that are innovative and diverse. Whether digital or analog, collage, CGI, ink drawing, abstract image worlds or selfie video, negative or positive, overlaps or animation—there’s a little of everything here. Recommended for young adults from 14 years.
