This year’s festival color sparkles somewhere between rosé and cherry blossom, making us long for spring and the 19th edition of VIENNA SHORTS. We’re using the peculiarity of 02/22/2022 to announce our magical festival dates: May 25 to 30, 2022 in cinemas and until June 30 online! We’re looking forward to an event that will hopefully bring us closer together after more than two years of pandemic. Until then, we’ll come up with one or two surprises and hereby give you a glimpse into what to expect online and offline.

ON SITE: WHAT HAPPENS IN THE CINEMA?

After an online-only edition in 2020 and a hybrid edition in 2021, we are planning to return to our regular cinemas in downtown Vienna for six days this spring, focusing on film programs that would not be possible in this form digitally. Are you curious yet? Rightly so! We are looking forward to the big screen, the shared cinema experience and discussions at the bar (or on blankets under the sky). Call us sentimental, but old love never dies.

ONLINE: WHAT HAPPENS IN OUR FILMPORTAL?

Our film portal, which we have grown fond of over the past two years and can hardly imagine doing without, will once again play an important role this year. On the one hand, you will have the opportunity to catch up on what you missed in cinemas online, and on the other hand, you will be able to access exclusive programs that are not available at the cinema at all. Plus: The online offer will be available to you beyond the festival duration, until June 30—and an online pass also gives you access to THIS IS SHORT.
