THE PROGRAM IS OUT!

THE PROGRAM IS OUT!

5 screens in Vienna, 2 streaming platforms, 1 app, 360 outstanding films: Finally, we can present you the entire program of the 19th edition of VIENNA SHORTS! From now on you can find all dates HERE and soon via our brand new, beautiful festival app—more about that soon! You can already buy festival passes now, and individual tickets starting tomorrow (May 18, 6 pm).

Starting May 25, we’ll be screening 360 films from 70 countries in nearly 60 programs, with more than 40 of them on a big screen. We celebrate analog cinema and our 94 competition films, marvel at the work of Laura Huertas Millán, go beyond the screen with live performances, meet for Late Nights at the cinema or on balmy evenings outdoors, look at the theme of movement from four perspectives and familiarize kids with short films.

After two years in a largely virtual space, we are happy to return to our regular cinemas in downtown Vienna: Stadtkino im Künstlerhaus, Gartenbaukino, Austrian Film Museum and METRO Kinokulturhaus. Wild im West joins us as a new open-air location; you can find an overview of all locations here.

The film portal, which has been continuously expanded since 2020, will of course return: Here you can catch up on competition films until June 30, but also stream programs curated exclusively for the film portal—including humoristic, political and historical films. The online offering of VIENNA SHORTS can also be accessed in parallel via THIS IS SHORT, our collaborative streaming platform with three partner festivals.

MONEY, MONEY, MONEY

For the first time, the prize money for all competitions adds up to € 25,000—almost € 5,000 more than last year, as almost all prizes have been adjusted for inflation and a new award has been added: The Social Responsibility Award of the Vienna Chamber of Labour is endowed with € 2,000 and is awarded in the spirit of social responsibility. OUR OPENING PROGRAM

Finally back at the Gartenbaukino! To kick off the 19th edition of the festival—accompanied by our host Neil Young and with opening remarks by Vienna’s City Councillor for Culture, Veronica Kaup-Hasler—we will embark on a cinematographic journey through time from the 1960s to today. We start with Norman McLaren’s classic Opening Speech and open the screen to the world. We wander to Romania in the 1970s, Kosovo in the 1990s, and Austria in the 2010s. We mirror the current state of the world with the story of a girl and her exhaustion—and together we fight our way through all odds. We've come a long long way together. Click here to check out the opening program.

We are really looking forward to our festive opening, to long cinema days with international guests, nightcaps at the cinema bar, live performances and of course—seeing you again! Hold on tight, we have a lot planned for you!
