Director Mo Harawe nominated for European Film Award
The 28-minute drama WILL MY PARENTS COME TO SEE ME by Austrian director Mo Harawe is one of five nominated films in the category "European Film Academy - Short Film 2022". The compelling film won the national competition of VIENNA SHORTS at the end of May and thus qualified for the most important European Film Award.
Shot in Somalia and co-produced with participation from Germany, WILL MY PARENTS COME TO SEE ME is about a Somali police woman who accompanies a young inmate sentenced to death on his last day. Harawe's film premiered in competition at the Berlinale and was not only selected as a candidate for the European Film Academy in Vienna, but also entered the race for the Oscars.
This year, 29 short films qualified for the European Film Awards, whose gala will be celebrated in Reykjavik on December 10, via successes at prestigious European festivals. From a shortlist of 12 films after the first round of voting, 5 nominees finally emerged in the second round:
