ON COLLECTIVE MEMORY: CHRISTOPHER HARRIS

Christopher Harris (*1962 in the USA) is part of a select group of Black filmmakers at the forefront of 21st-century moving image art. His practice is dedicated to 16mm film, focusing on the care and representation of Black culture and visuality in a variety of forms. Poetic and inspired by the aesthetics of experimental cinema, he weaves archival footage with direct manipulation of analog material, challenging conventional documentary filmmaking. The portrait program at the Filmmuseum spans from his early masterpiece still/here to his latest film Speaking in Tongues: Take One, a loose adaptation of Ishmael Reed's novel Mumbo Jumbo.
