Official Selection: 96 films in four competitions
More than 5,000 films were submitted for Vienna Shorts 2020 and have been meticulously viewed, discussed and evaluated by our program teams over the past months. At the end of this process, 96 films have now been selected for the four competition sections of the festival.
The international competition includes 57 films from 27 countries, divided between the two sections Fiction & Documentary (FIDO) and Animation Avantgarde (AA). Women are responsible for 46 percent of these films. In terms of the origin of the films, the major production countries are clearly predominant––with 9 films from the United States and 5 films each from France and Germany. Films from Belgium, Switzerland, Japan, Argentina, China and the UK are also strongly represented.
For the two national competitions, 39 films were selected, divided between the Austrian Competition (ÖW) and the Austrian Music Video Award (MUVI). Women directed 49 percent of the films. We are very pleased that all the filmmakers in the competition selection decided to participate and to join the path we had to take due to the Corona crisis.
The further program of the Vienna Shorts – Online Edition will be published step by step in the next weeks.
