AUSTRIAN MUSIC VIDEO AWARD FOR „PAINTED PAIN“
The first winner of our 20th edition has been announced: Sabrina Norte receives the Austrian Music Video Award 2023 for her dazzling music video for the catchy pop song “Painted Pain” by W1ZE feat. Lukas Oscar. An honorable mention goes to “Toothpaste – Oh Alien” by Clemens Niel.
„UNCOMPROMISING AND COURAGEOUS“
At the award ceremony at the METRO Kinokulturhaus on Saturday evening, Sabrina Norte was awarded the prize money of € 2,500 (increased by € 1,000 compared to 2022), donated for the first time by the Viennese film and music industry FIMU, as well as our first tree dedication: The director’s “very own tree” is a columnar flowering ash tree, planted at Lorystraße 55 in Simmering this spring. This year, for the first time, the festival does not award trophies, but dedicates freshly planted trees in Vienna to prize winners. (more info)

An uncompromising and courageous music video with strong symbolism and powerful images. It shines through its expressive editing, colorful contrasts and bold performance by the artists. The vision of the director creates a wild aesthetic that enhances the attitude of the music. As stated in the lyrics they are “not scared of heights,” taking the risk of being both loud and honest.
HONORABLE MENTION FOR “Toothpaste”
Clemens Niel received an honorable mention for his music video “Toothpaste” by the Viennese synth-indiepop trio OH ALIEN. In it, a humanized toothbrush moves through abandoned environments in search of the meaning of its existence, ultimately finding an unexpected connection in the isolation of the Alps.

In this music video, the director finds an unusual but touching solution to visualize love. The video stands out through its difference in “quote unquote” the contemporary music video landscape and by being sincere in its simplicity. Whoever thought that tooth- and heartache are so closely relatable.
