LONGING FOR PEACE: AMOS GITAI

LONGING FOR PEACE: AMOS GITAI

Amos Gitai, born in Israel in 1950, is renowned for his documentary films that bear a distinctive artistic signature. His work is characterized by a fearless exploration of Arab-Israeli relations, a steadfast commitment to revealing truths often obscured by others, and an intimate intertwining of the personal and the political. In collaboration with the Austrian Film Museum, we are thrilled to co-present two of the director's shorter works as part of an extensive Gitai retrospective in May and June. House (1980), previously censored by Israeli television, chronicles the ever-changing ownership of a house in West Jerusalem. Letter to a Friend in Gaza (2018) is a poignant cinematic expression of protest poetry, where Gitai shares his reflections on Gaza through the lens of texts by renowned writers.
