More than 90 individual programs will take place in a dark movie auditorium, outdoors or in a truck converted into a cinema. The latter is called Milieukino and moves for the duration of the festival to the MuseumsQuartier, which—along with Blickle Kino in Belvedere 21—becomes a new venue this year with the festival center and five open-air evenings.
MUSEUMSQUARTIER
For the first time, the VIENNA SHORTS Festival Center & Open Air in the MuseumsQuartierwill be the central meeting spot of the festival—a "homecoming" for us, as our festival office has been located in the Q21 since 2007.
During the day, the Festival Center in Room D and the adjacent Hof 8 will be the central spot for accredited guests and venue for Industry Talks. During the festival, Hof 8 is also home to the Milieukino, a truck converted into a mobile cinema by Odeon director Max Kaufmann. Here, for a discounted admission of € 5, political programs, among others, will be shown and all competition programs will be repeated. The exhibition "Doom Days" by MQ artist-in-residence Hannah Stragholz can be seen in the ASIFAkeil.
And: On five evenings, films will flicker across the open-air screen starting at 9:30 p.m. with free admission in the Main Courtyard (Friday and Saturday) or Courtyard 8 (Sunday to Tuesday). In case of bad weather, the program will be shown in the Ovalhalle thanks to a cooperation with FOTO WIEN and the MuseumsQuartier.
CINEMAS
The festival kick-off is traditionally celebrated in the Gartenbaukino followed by an opening party in the foyer. The main venue on the following days will once again be the Stadtkino im Künstlerhaus, which will host the Fiction & Documentary and Austria Competition as well as the Late Night Programs, Children's and Youth Programs and the Award Ceremony. For the first time, the METRO Kinokulturhaus will host the programs of the Animation Avantgarde competition, in addition to analog film programs, live performances and the Austrian Music Video Award (MUVI) with a cinema concert by W1ZE.
The Austrian Film Museum is, among other things, cooperation partner and venue for the film program as well as the Master Class by Kevin J. Everson and Claudrena N. Harold. Meanwhile, the Blickle Kino at Belvedere 21 will host the two solo film programs as well as an installation by Everson.
