THE WINNERS OF Animation Avantgarde
The main prize of the international competition Animation Avantgarde, the ASIFA Austria Award, goes to Germany this year for the humorously dystopian film “Pacific Vein” by Ulu Braun. According to the jury, the film “merges pop culture and consumerism, disasters and wars" and addresses “humanity's failure in real time.” The prize includes qualifications for both the Oscars and the European Film Awards. The Jury Prize and the associated one-month residency in Vienna go to Croatian director Matea Kovač for her film “Y,” for her "sincere and beautifully drawn observations." The “elegantly composed sensory landscape” of “Visions” by Maxime Corbeil-Perron receives an Honorable Mention, and the Audience Award goes to “27" by Flóra Anna Buda. Here is the link to all the awards and jury justifications.
