A JOURNEY INTO THE (UN-)KNOWN

A JOURNEY INTO THE (UN-)KNOWN

One of our portraits this year is dedicated to an artist as extraordinary and multi-layered as her works: Jyoti Mistry. Mistry overlays footage from colonial archives, travel and amateur films with animation and spoken word, creating poetic and powerful commentaries on power structures, exploitation, and historical and contemporary attributions. In Cause of Death, she sheds light on femicide and the complex discrimination against women. In When I Grow Up I Want to Be a Black Man, she examines Black masculinity and racist violence. In Loving In Between, she explores social norms and taboos related to queer sexuality and love. We highly recommend it!
