The Air we breathe
In terms of content and organization, the 18th festival edition was all about the pandemic. On the one hand, the focus The Air We Breathe
was dedicated to dealing with the crisis situation, while on the other
hand, the different venues testified to the extent to which Covid-19
influenced the presentation of the approximately 310 festival films.
Only
about 20 feature-length programs were shown on the big screen; nearly
40 more programs were made available on the VIENNA SHORTS film portal.
And in addition, around 300 more films were screened on the European
festival portal THIS IS SHORT, which was available for three months.

For the trailer of the 18th edition of Vienna Shorts, Ismaël Joffroy Chandoutis merges the big screen and the small screen, animated image and sequenced sound. As a basis for Machine Synesthesia, the French director uses a template from the so-called Black MIDI Community, casting the festival name in his own sound sequence.
The trailer was created with the support of Q21 at MuseumsQuartier.
