11. Vienna Shorts
Radical
In 2014, VIS was bigger than ever before: At the 11th festival edition, more than 300 short films of more than 3,000 submissions were screened over seven days in the competitions and the carefully curated focus and special programs. The Stadtkino at Künstlerhaus served as the main venue and festival center.
After Pushing the Boundaries and Strange Days, the focus theme Radical completed our festival trilogy, which dealt with the socio-political spectrum of short films in the most diverse ways.In addition, there were lectures by prominent guests, discussions, open air live concerts at Karlsplatz, two collaborations with the Wiener Festwochen and special spotlights on film pioneer Peter Konlechner and media artist Robert Seidel at the Austrian Film Museum. At the first-ever University Meeting, the Vienna Film Academy and Notre Dame University from Lebanon met. And last but not least, we continued our triangular program—this time with partner festivals from Bristol and Riga.
Behind the scenes: The four competitions were reorganized, now each led by two program directors.

(Mihai Grecu & Thibault Gleize, RO/FR 2014)
Artists in Residence Mihai Grecu and Thibault Gleize contributed three festival trailers to VIS 2014: The French multimedia duo had caused a stir several times with their work at VIS and also won an award for Exland 2013. Their three very different trailers were shown alternately at the festival.
The trailer was created with the support of Q21 at MuseumsQuartier.
