GREEN EVENT

As an internationally active cultural institution, we are aware of our responsibility for the environment and are committed to a sustainable approach to the limited resources of our living space. Sustainable event organization is therefore an integral part of our work.

This means not only that we comply with existing laws on environmental protection and sustainability, but also that we avoid the unnecessary use of non-renewable resources wherever possible.

The aim is to organize the "Vienna Shorts 2024" events (excluding Vienna Shorts parties, industry events, and all events at the Milieukino) according to the criteria of the Austrian Eco-label for Green Events. For all other events, we are guided by the EcoEvent label of the City of Vienna and the requirements of the Austrian Eco-Label's Guideline 62 "Green Meetings and Green Events".

In practice, this means, among other things, an environmentally friendly arrival and departure of filmmakers and industry guests, waste prevention and energy-saving use of equipment during set-up and clean-up, sustainably produced (or completely avoided) printed materials, a CO2-neutral server landscape for the digital infrastructure, as well as regional, seasonal and fair-trade catering (even our vodka comes from Lower Austria!).

In practical terms, this means, among other things:

Mobility and climate protection

  • Climate-friendly arrival and departure of filmmakers and industry guests (or otherwise CO2 compensation via the compensation system of the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences Vienna)
  • Good accessibility of all event venues by public transport and priority communication of the same
  • Sufficient bicycle parking facilities and bicycle repair kit

Event location

  • Waste prevention, waste avoidance and separation
  • Barrier-free (minimum) equipment of event venues
  • If possible, energy-saving lighting technology used in event areas & use of environmentally friendly equipment
  • Water-saving sanitary facilities as well as environmentally and health-friendly cleaning agents according to the Öko-Rein database
  • Avoidance of transportation distances

Supply, material and regionality

  • All printed materials are produced according to the principle of minimum resource consumption: small print run, double-sided copies, replacement by electronic data carriers.
  • All printed matter is printed exclusively on paper listed in the ÖkoKauf Wien database for ecological printing paper.
  • CO2-neutral server landscape for the digital infrastructure
  • Economical use of give-aways and merchandising products made of environmentally friendly or natural materials or with recognized seals of approval, decoration and signage are reused whenever possible
  • Regional, seasonal and fair-trade catering (even our vodka comes from the Lower Austria!)

Social aspects

  • We try to support all visitors in barrier free participation if necessary.
  • We see ourselves as an inclusive festival, committed to diversity and equality.
  • We are committed to creating a gender-equal and diverse program, thereby empowering female filmmakers and underrepresented social groups in the film industry.
  • As a festival, we are aware of our role in the exploitation cycle of a film and are fully committed to paying screening fees.
  • We are committed to ensuring a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all festival participants. Our Code of Conduct serves as a guide for social interaction and defines the rules for appropriate behavior at all festival venues.
