Data Privacy

Every year, the festival receives several thousand data sets on submitted films as well as several hundred personal data of filmmakers, guests and accredited persons. The additional possibility of presenting films online and the registration required for this entails the management of a number of additional data sets. The protection of all this data and the prevention of data misuse is our top priority.

In all our actions, we strictly adhere to the VIENNA SHORTS Privacy Policy, the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and applicable data protection laws. We treat personal, film-specific and other data with care and ensure that personal rights and copyrights are not violated. An own data protection officer has been appointed by the festival respectively the association behind it to keep an eye on the compliance with these rules as well.

PRIVACY POLICY

1. General Information

Each time users access viennashorts.com by Vienna Shorts or Independent Cinema and each time a file is retrieved, data related to this process is temporarily stored and processed in a log file. Before storage, each data record is anonymized by modifying the IP address. These data are evaluated solely for statistical purposes and to improve the service before being deleted.

When accessing individual pages, temporary cookies are used to facilitate navigation. These session cookies do not contain any personal data and expire at the end of the session.

Postal addresses and email addresses provided as part of inquiries or personalized services are used exclusively for the requested services.

You can have incorrect personal data about you corrected.

c) Right to Erasure – Art. 17 GDPR

You can request the deletion of your personal data under certain conditions, such as when the data is no longer necessary or is processed unlawfully.

d) Right to Restriction of Processing – Art. 18 GDPR

You can prevent further processing of your personal data during the review of other rights claims.

e) Right to Data Portability – Art. 20 GDPR

You can request your personal data in a commonly used, machine-readable format to transfer it to another responsible entity.

You also have the right to file a complaint with the competent supervisory authority, which depends on your residence, workplace, or the alleged violation.

5. Vienna Shorts Website

When users access Vienna Shorts’ website or retrieve files, data is temporarily stored and processed in log files using cookies. These log files include:

  • Internet provider

  • Anonymized IP address

  • Date and time

  • Accessed page/file name

  • Data volume transferred

  • Message indicating whether the access was successful

These details are necessary for providing website content correctly and are processed for:

We do not use this data to identify you. The data is accessible only to responsible entities and potential processors. Anonymous data may be statistically analyzed to optimize our website and its technology.

7. Newsletter

With your explicit consent, we send newsletters or specialist information via email. Your email address is sufficient for subscription. These emails may also include updates on service changes or technical matters.

To confirm subscriptions, we use the double opt-in method:

  2. A confirmation email is sent.
  3. Subscription is completed upon email confirmation.

8. PLAUSIBLE ANALYTICS

We use Plausible Analytics for optimizing our platform. Plausible is a privacy-focused service provided by Plausible Insights OÜ, Västriku tn 2, 50403, Tartu, Estonia (Registration number: 14709274). It is fully GDPR-compliant.

Plausible collects anonymized data, such as:

  • Date and time of visits
  • Page titles and URLs
  • Referral sources
  • Country of access
  • Browser user agent

Plausible does not use cookies or store readable personal data. Instead, it anonymizes personal information (such as IP addresses) through irreversible encryption (hashing).

9. Embedded YouTube/Vimeo Videos

Our website integrates videos from:

  • Vimeo, LLC mit Hauptsitz in 555 West 18th Street, New York, NY 10011, USA

When you visit a page with embedded videos, a connection is established with YouTube or Vimeo servers, which may log your visit. If you are logged into your YouTube/Vimeo account, your activity may be linked to your profile. To prevent this, log out before visiting.

The video provider may use cookies to collect user data. If you have disabled Google Ads cookies, YouTube/Vimeo videos will not store tracking cookies. However, these services may store general usage data in other cookies. To prevent this, block all cookies in your browser settings.
