These images of 20 years ago are branded in our memories: the fall of the Berlin Wall, the symbolic end of the European East-West division, the end of the Cold War. VIS Vienna Independent Shorts is putting a strong emphasis on this whole complex topic, but also seeing the jubilee as an invitation to broaden the context.

With a programme curated by the Berlin Short Film Festival interfilm (Berlin ’89 – Of Walls and Men), we will take a detailed look at the city that was divided for such a long period of time. Simultaneously we will also move away from Berlin: Robert Buchschwentner asked himself where walls exist today and, for his new international programme, returned to Burgenland, among other places, where the Iron Curtain on the border to Hungary began to crumble quite early on (Frontbewegungen – Movements at the Front).
