VIS Vienna Independent Shorts 2008
VIS Vienna Independent Shorts celebrated its fifth birthday gracefully from May 16th to 23rd, 2008 in Top Kino, MuseumsQuartier, Schikaneder, Andino, 3raum Anatomietheater and the Reformed Church as well as in Gartenbaukino which served as big opening location for the world premiere of the football short film reel Eleven Minutes. 921 films were submitted from 51 countries, of which about 50 were included in the international competition and more than 30 in the Austrian panorama section. The tributes were dedicated to Hubert Sielecki and Chantal Akerman. The main focus of the eight special programs and six guest programmes was on Switzerland and football. Among the awards were the Golden Shorts – Short Film Award of the city and the ray Audience Award and – for the first time – the Hubert Sielecki Award and the audience Hoanzl Audience Awards.
